Supporting Your Recovery with Targeted Soft Tissue Techniques

Dry needling and cupping are treatment techniques that may be used alongside osteopathic treatment to help reduce muscle tension, improve movement and support your recovery.

At Peter Petroff Osteopathy, these techniques are only used when clinically appropriate and always form part of a personalised treatment plan that may also include hands-on treatment, exercise rehabilitation and education.

✓ Performed by a registered osteopath

✓ Individualised treatment plans

✓ No additional fee when clinically indicated

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling involves inserting fine, sterile needles into muscles to target areas of increased tension and myofascial trigger points.

It may help:

  • Reduce muscle tightness

  • Improve joint movement

  • Decrease pain

  • Restore normal muscle function

  •

Dry needling is based on modern anatomy and musculoskeletal principles and differs from traditional acupuncture.

What is Cupping?

Cupping therapy uses specially designed suction cups placed on the skin to create negative pressure over muscles and connective tissues.

It may be used to:

  • Reduce muscle tension

  • Improve tissue mobility

  • Encourage relaxation

  • Complement manual therapy

The circular marks sometimes left after treatment are a normal response to the suction and usually fade within several days.

Are They Safe?

Both dry needling and cupping are generally considered safe when performed by a suitably trained healthcare professional.

Before treatment, I'll explain the procedure, discuss any risks and answer your questions so you can make an informed decision.

Will everyone receive dry needling or cupping?

No.

These techniques are only used when they are likely to benefit your condition. Many patients improve with other osteopathic techniques and exercise rehabilitation alone.

Does dry needling hurt?

Most people experience only mild discomfort. You may feel a brief muscle twitch or aching sensation, and some temporary soreness for 24–48 hours is common.

Ready to Start Your Recovery?

Whether you're experiencing muscle tightness, persistent pain or restricted movement, dry needling or cupping may form part of your personalised treatment plan.
